At FutureSkills at MediaCityUK we offer a range of courses, all led by industry experienced professionals who will support you develop the skills, knowledge and experience you need in order to be successful within the sector. Whether that is as a Media Make-Up Artist, a Journalist or a Music Producer.

Our Courses:

 Catherine Davies
Head of Department, Media, Media Make-Up and Music 

Catherine joined the college after a successful career as a Broadcast Journalist. During her time behind the microphone, Catherine was Head of News for Juice FM in Liverpool and worked as a reporter and news reader for XFM, Key 103 and Century FM. Catherine has been at Salford City College for over 12 years and uses her vast range of industry contacts to help deliver an engaging and exciting curriculum. 
Collin Appleby
Teacher of Media

Colin is an experienced educator with a rich background in the Music and Media industries, including experience with working with the BBC/ITV plus media consultancy specialising in livestream broadcasting at Fleetwood Town FC and Lytham Festival. He holds a BSc (Media) and MA (Music) and is a published author.
Tanya Appleton 
Teacher of Media Makeup  

Since finishing college in 2010, I jumped straight into industry working in TV, filming short independent films, working with a variety of individuals from shows such as Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and Emmerdale to name but a few. I have also been lucky enough to of worked on various large business campaigns as well as a hair and make up artist for Manchester UTD’s tv channel MUTV hd since 2013. 
Cherie Beatty
Media Technician

Cherie is a former student of FutureSkills, joining the staff team 4 years ago on a Technical Events Apprenticeship. Her background is in events and sound production, and has worked in the industry over 5 years as; stage manager, sound & light tech and backline crew for live shows & festivals such as; Rec Rock, Morecambe’s Vintage By The Sea, Liverpool’s Sound City and Kendal Calling. 
Frank Beaver 
Teacher of Music 

Frank graduated from UCLan with first class honours in Music Practice. Broadcasted performances include Maida Vale for BBC Radio 1 and MTV2. Composition commissions include FutureSound and The Place Contemporary Dance School, London. Event and Stage Management work includes The Preston Vintage Guild; Vintage By The Sea, and The Riverside Vintage Festival.
Beverley Braisdell
Curriculum Leader of Media Makeup  

Bev has worked in excess of 30 Years in a variety of fields within the Beauty, Nail & Make-Up industries. She is an Author of the renowned book; ‘The Hair and Make Up Artists Handbook’.

Established as a respected Professional Make Up Artist, she successfully launched a start-up business partnership ‘I’m Made Up’ securing contracts for brands including Kendal Calling, Crème De La Crèam Ball (Dawn Ward, Cheshire Housewives), Cream, Tennis Stars at The Mere and Purple Universe’s ‘Boodles Tennis’ event Cheshire & The Printworks (Manchester) and completing make up services on many events, festivals, films & celebrity clients.
 Dawn Cundy 
Curriculum Leader of Media and Journalism

Dawn has worked in the industry since 2005. She’s worked on a variety of projects including programming for ITV, BBC, videography, corporate productions, Photography and live events. She’s completed a BA Hons in Media (Television Production) and a MA in Television Production. She’s a Pearson Edexcel Standards Verifier for Media.

  Louise Curran
Teacher of Media

Louise has worked in London as a Producer/Director for numerous broadcasters including BBC, Sky, ITV, Channel 5 and MTV. Credits include Celebrity Big Brother, National Lottery Awards, Empire Awards, The Oscars Live and a number of commercials. Louise now teaches Creative Media to BTEC Level 1 and Level 3 and absolutely loves it!

Ben Evans 
Teacher of Music 

Ben has worked at FutureSkills since it opened and brought with him a range of industry experience and knowledge from a broad background in many areas of Creative Arts, including electronic music production and performance, experimental composition and live sound and music for theatre and dance. 
 Saima Sultana
Teacher of Media and Journalism

Saima has been working in education for over 10 years. She is extremely passionate about Media Production and teaching. She has worked in the Industry as a wedding videographer and has graduated in Film and Media Production at Sheffield University. 
Nick Zabel
Teacher of Media

Nick joined the college in 2011 after working in the television industry for 7 years. His credits include TV shows such as The Million Pound Drop, Deal Or No Deal and Ant & Dec’s Push The Button. He achieved a First-Class BA(Hons) Degree in Film & Media Studies.
